Curing/Drying Marijuana
Curing pot is a very important process. If done properly it will ensure not only good taste but also a good high as well. When I harvest I will take the larger fan leaves off, and hang the plants upside down. Hanging the plant this way will slow down the drying process, drying pot too fast will cause chlorophyll to stay within the buds causing a harsh taste. Hanging the plants will also prevent them from coming into contact with anything else and causing their resin from rubbing off.
Cool temperature is very important, keep the temperature between 60 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit, if your temperature goes above 80 Fahrenheit it will decrease THC levels.
- Keep your plants in a dark room/tent
- Keep an oscillating fan on for air circulation
- Humidity should be around 60%
- If humidity is too high it may cause mold
- My humidity went up to the mid-’70s some times, everything turned out OK, but it’s a risk
- Cool temperature is the most important (60 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit)
After about two weeks, the branches should be dry enough to snap. At this point, I seal the buds inside of glass jars. This will help develop that classic marijuana smell, it will also contain the smell of your bud a lot better than a plastic bag, keeping your pot more stealthy. Initially, I will open the jars twice a day, in the morning and evening, this is done to get rid of any excess condensation. After about two weeks in the jars, the pot will be ready. For long term storage, I put the jars in the freezer.
